Sioux

LIVED: In the Great Plains in these states: North and South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Colorado. They got almost everything they needed from buffalo, so they followed buffalo herds all over.
HOMES: Round tents called "tipi". The tipi was made of wooden poles covered with decorated buffalo hides. The tents had only one room. The floor was bare earth, with a firepit in the middle of the floor. This home could be packed up and moved easily.

CLOTHING: Their clothing was made from animal skins, mostly deerskins or elk skins. Women and girls wore long dresses and leggings.Men wore breechcloth. For cold weather or special events, the men wore deerskin shirts and fringed leggings. Their clothes were often decorated with colorful beads and quill embroidery. They decorated their clothing with shells, animal claws and teeth, and paint. Boys and girls, and men and women wore their hair long and in braids. Men also wore eagle feathers on a headdress for special events. Their moccasins were dyed red, yellow, and blue. In winter everyone wore buffalo robes.

FOOD: They ate buffalo, bear, deer, antelope, turkey and hens. They ate a lot of vegetables. such as wild beans, corn,turnips, and berries.

ARTS AND CRAFTS: The Sioux tribe was known for its exquisite pottery.
